Swiss Half Fare Card
The one-month Half Fare Card is very simple… it allows you to buy tickets at a 50% discount throughout Switzerland. It can be bought as a stand-alone pass, or can be bought in combination with another Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Flexi or Transfer Ticket pass.
The Half Fare Card gives you no free days of travel, but it does give you 50% discounts for a month on all regular trains, boats and busses, as well as on most of the high-mountain cable cars and scenic trains. Almost all Swiss people buy an annual Half Fare Card, so showing a pass and paying half-price is very common when you buy tickets. It will generally pay for itself with just 2 days of train travel, and is a much better option than having no pass at all. And the savings are nice – it can be the difference between deciding to go to Jungfraujoch or not going at all. You can buy them in advance or at train station ticket counters throughout Switzerland.
There are a few private mountain trains and cable cars that don’t offer discounts, such as the Oeschinensee gondola above Kandersteg, and the cable cars around St Moritz and Pontresina in the Engadine region, but for the most part, when you show this pass, you’ll pay half-price.
