Lakes in the Engadine
There are several beautiful and romantic lakes in the Engadine region. Near St. Moritz, is St. Moritz Lake, which offers sail boat racing and horse race (on the frozen lake). Silvaplana Lake offers kite and wind surfers frequent windy days while shore-side spectators watch sail boarders achieve speeds of up to 80km/h and kite surfers achieve 20 second jumps. Champfèrer Lake is linked at a narrow spot with Silvaplana Lake, where the clear waters here our a paradise for anglers. The lake is located south of the Champfèrer Village. Lake Sils lies on a high plateau at an altitude of 1800 m, immediately by the watershed of the Maloja pass, the crossing into the Bergell valley. During the summer months, Europe’s highest passenger boat service operates on lake Sils: the modern motor vessel “Segl-Maria” moves across the lake from Sils Maria to Maloja on the south-western lakeshore four times a day.
