Europe’s highest gondola takes you to the Klein Matterhorn above Zermatt. This is one of the highlights of the Zermatt region. There are superb views at the top, an interesting ice cave carved into the glacier, a stylish cafe, and even summer skiing on the glacier! Klein Matterhorn is great.
Still, I go to Zermatt every year, and I don’t go to Klein Matterhorn often. If you really want to touch a glacier, this is the place to do it, but if you’re going for the view, I think they are not quite as breathtaking as from the nearby Gornergrat cogwheel train. The overall experience is maybe not as memorable as the Aiguille du Midi cable car to Mont Blanc above Chamonix. And the ice cave carved into the glacier is not quite as dramatic as that at the Allalin in Saas Fee. But still, when you put everything together, the Klein Matterhorn is a fantastic trip and one of the best things you can do on a multi-day trip to Zermatt.
