Aiguille du Midi

The Aiguille du Midi is the premier cable car from Chamonix up into the Mont Blanc massif, and is perhaps one of the most impressive high-mountain excursions in the Alps. Get there early, as the lines can be long (I’d suggest going right when they open), and don’t forget sunscreen and warm clothes, because you are going to be very high in the mountains! The multi-stage cable car whisks you up to 3842 meters (12,605 ft), and there is a restaurant and panoramic outdoor terrace with absolutely stunning close-up views of the white dome of Mont Blanc.

Many people like to take the gondola from Aiguille du Midi across the Glacier du Géant to Pointe Helbronner on the Italian side.  This is a beautiful trip too, but slow and time-consuming, also sometimes closed if weather is bad or winds are high.  The best views are from Aiguille du Midi, and the gondola can be skipped without fear of missing something essential.
